Abstract The topological states of matter and materials have been attracting extensive interests as one the frontier topics in condensed physics science since discovery quantum Hall effect 1980s. So far all phases such integer insulators are characterized by invariants. None is a half or fractional. Here we propose type semimetals which hosts single cone Wilson fermions. fermions possess linear dispersion near Dirac point, but break chiral parity symmetry that an unpaired can be realized on lattice. In order to avoid fermion doubling problem, must broken explicitly if hermiticity, locality translational invariance hold. We find system classified relative homotopy group, half-integer invariant. term nontrivial phase anomalous semimetal. work opens door towards exploring novel with fractional charge.

Quantum transport of disordered Weyl semimetals at the nodal point.
Weyl semimetals are paradigmatic topological gapless phases in three dimensions. We here address the effect of disorder on charge transport in Weyl semimetals. For a single Weyl node with energy at the degeneracy point and without interactions, theory predicts the existence of a critical disorder strength beyond which the density of states takes on a nonzero value. Predictions for the conductiv...

Electrons in materials with linear dispersion behave as massless Weyl- or Dirac-quasiparticles, and continue to intrigue due to their close resemblance to elusive ultra-relativistic particles as well as their potential for future electronics. Yet the experimental signatures of Weyl-fermions are often subtle and indirect, in particular if they coexist with conventional, massive quasiparticles. H...
متن کاملWhen Chiral Photons Meet Chiral Fermions: Photoinduced Anomalous Hall Effects in Weyl Semimetals.
The Weyl semimetal is characterized by three-dimensional linear band touching points called Weyl nodes. These nodes come in pairs with opposite chiralities. We show that the coupling of circularly polarized photons with these chiral electrons generates a Hall conductivity without any applied magnetic field in the plane orthogonal to the light propagation. This phenomenon comes about because wit...
متن کاملAnomalous edge transport in the quantum anomalous Hall state.
We predict by first-principles calculations that thin films of a Cr-doped (Bi,Sb)2Te3 magnetic topological insulator have gapless nonchiral edge states coexisting with the chiral edge state. Such gapless nonchiral states are not immune to backscattering, which would explain dissipative transport in the quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) state observed in this system experimentally. Here, we study the...

Topological phases of matter have been among the most active research subjects in condensed matter physics. They can be broadly classified as two major classes. The first class of phases, including topological insulators and superconductors[1–6], and other symmetry protected topological phases[7], have gapped bulks with nontrivial topological structures characterized by topological invariants[8...
